1960 Mid-Valley Council Dinner
On Thursday, May 5, 1960, at 6:30 PM the Mid-Valley Council held its 29th annual Dinner, hosted
by our Troop, Pack 21, and Explorer Post 21 in St. Mary's Visitation School Auditorium. We have no photos from the
event, but we have a copy of the dinner program. The program's listing on page 5 of the 34 troops,
15 packs, and 11 explorer posts in the council is an interesting snapshot of scout history in the Mid-Valley area. By 1962
the Mid-Valley Council would merge with Dan Beard Council (Scranton) to form Forest Lakes Council. As of 2012,
of the troops listed, Troops 21, 73 (Throop), and 87 (Mayfield) are still operating. Troop 41 (Eynon) lapsed for a few years
but was rechartered later, and Troop 34 (Olyphant) folded. Since 1960 new troops have been chartered in the Mid-Valley area:
Troop 265 in Montdale, Troop 322 in Dickson City, Troop 34 in Jessup, Troop 8 in Carbondale, Troop 888 in Greenfield.
