1949 Window Display in Tylenda Motors
During the 1940s and 1950s it was common for scout units to create elaborate scouting displays for windows of businesses. This photo from Fall 1949 or Spring 1950 shows a display by St. Mary's units in Tylenda Motors showroom. Tylenda Motors was a car dealership located at Dickson Corners where Boulevard Avenue joins Main Street. We can date the photo to this timeframe because it shows a poster promoting the 40th Anniversary of the BSA and a poster for the "Strengthening the Arm of Liberty" drive that the National BSA conducted from 1949-1952. During this drive 200 8.5-foot replicas of the Statue of Liberty were purchased through fundraising by the BSA for commemorative memorials throughout the US. We are grateful to Paul Babinski, and his son Gerry Babinski, the son and grandson (respectively) of our Pack's first Cubmaster John Babinski, for a scan of this photo. John Babinski appears second from the left, and John Chesnaky, a Troop committee member, is at the far left of the leaders. |
